Our Team

Our Camp1 Team is passionate about bringing real-time connections and bonding to the T1D community. We understand that no one wants to be a part of this community but once you are we become a family. These experienced T1D Moms send you and your families so much compassion and care and we look forward to being a part of you and your T1D kids’ journey.

Melissa Laskey

Co-Founder

Melissa, a vibrant and sociable T1D Mom since 2002, embraced the lifestyle when her son Michael was diagnosed as a toddler while she was pregnant with her son William. T1D also affects her brother and cousin, diagnosed in their youth. Melissa adeptly manages outings with packed meals, zero-carb snacks, and drinks, collaborates with schools and nurses, and actively engages in ADA camps and JDRF Walks. She co-founded a support group in the Chicagoland area in 2008, which has evolved into a popular online and offline community.

Melissa is dedicated to fostering connections among T1D families through shared experiences and events. As a member of the JDRF Executive Board, she has led the Volunteer Chair for the JDRF Educational Summit “Type One Nation” for 15+ years. Melissa has organized numerous JDRF Walks, earning a nomination for the 2023 Carol and Erwin Lurie Award for her commitment to supporting the JDRF Mission.

Melissa graduated from Wake Forest University with a BS in Business and earned her MBA from St. Edward’s University. Her hobbies include gardening, her sweet dog Jazzy and Tae Kwon Do where she is a 4th Dan Master Instructor.

Katie Doyle

Camp1 Co-Founder

Katie Doyle is a sales and marketing professional with type 1 diabetes (T1D). She is dedicated to supporting those affected by diabetes by raising awareness and providing education. Katie volunteers full-time for the Diabetes Education & Camping Association (DECA) and Camp1. Having spent 24 years in leadership positions in various consumer product industries such as Pepsi and Mars, Katie found purpose in aligning with the values of these companies that motivated her. Her personal experience with T1D made her realize the importance of community and education. Her daughter Liz's diagnosis at 12 further fueled her passion for advocating for diabetes management tools and support systems. Through organizations like JDRF, Katie's family learned to advocate for their rights and educate others. Liz's experience with Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) technology inspired her to help others with T1D. Katie's involvement with DECA led her to co-found Camp1, aiming to support the diabetes camp community through networking and innovation. Katie graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College with her BA in Sociology.

Anne Marie Anderson

Anne Marie has a deep love for day camps since she was young, taking care of a parent and later raising a child with T1D. She met Melissa at a T1D event in Chicago and together they started a support group. Anne Marie is dedicated to raising awareness and building a supportive T1D community through social media, events, and advocacy work. She has a background in finance but found her true calling in making a positive impact on those affected by T1D. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her dog Luna, grandkids, and cycling.
